This is a mail car, once used to transport the US Mail on railroads. Postal employees would pick up mail at stations along the route, and sort the mail while the train rolled. Most of the time, mail could be ready for drop off at the next station. This car, on display at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. It one of many examples of displays at this fine museum. Also on display is a wide variety of freight and passenger cars, specialty cars, and unique hardware from the glory days of the Colorado and Western US railway heydays.
